Personal Profile | Kuda Boyd (Director)

Kuda is an admitted Attorney of both the High Court of the Republic of South Africa and the High Court of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

Between 2010 and 2017 Kuda worked in the Mergers & Acquisitions team of one of South Africa’s leading corporate and commercial law firms, Bowman Gilfillan Inc., the last 3 years of which as a Senior Associate. He then joined the Transactional Services team of Pinsent Masons LLP, a leading United Kingdom headquartered international law firm in March 2017 specialising in Mergers & Acquisitions and Projects in the infrastructure and energy sectors.

Between 2008 and 2009, Kuda worked as a researcher for the South African Research Chair in Property Law, hosted by Stellenbosch University under Professor AJ van der Walt a leading Constitutional Property Lawyer in South Africa. During this period, Kuda assisted in the writing and publishing of several Property Law works, including the standard South African Neighbour Law Textbook by Professor AJ van der Walt.

Kuda holds LLB and LLM degrees from the University of Stellenbosch. Kuda also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Business Administration) at Wits Business School in Johannesburg.

Advised a multinational healthcare and technology group and its South African subsidiary on its Broad Based Black Economic Transaction
Advised the majority investor in a Gauteng public-private rail operator in increasing its equity stake in a key transport infrastructure company
Advised a Toronto Stock Exchange-listed Zimbabwe-focused gold-mining group on the recapitalisation of a major gold mining operation in Zimbabwe
Advised a sports and entertainment investment firm in its proposed acquisition of a minority stake in a South African satellite-TV broadcaster
Advised a JSE listed diversified mining group in its capacity as shareholder in an incorporated joint venture with a global diversified mineral group, in relation to a ZAR3,5 billion construction project of iron ore and ferrochrome smelters in Malaysia
Advised a JSE listed diversified mining group on the disposal by its joint venture partner of its 50% participation interest in a major unincorporated nickel and palladium joint venture production operation
Advised a leading black owned investment holding company in a landmark Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment Transaction involving one of South Africa’s largest insurance groups
Advised a US-based investor in relation to a Diamond Exploration & Mining Project in Sierra Leone.

Publications

Kuda’s LLB dissertation was published in the 2008 edition of the Responsa Meridiana Law Journal. The dissertation focused on the nature of government procurement contracts and the extent to which they are regulated by private law of contract and/or administrative law.
Kuda has also assisted in the writing and publishing of several Property Law works, including the standard South African Neighbour Law Textbook by Professor AJ van der Walt.
